Hawaii Launches Hawaii Arts Season
The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), working with several cultural and arts organizations and HVCB, launched the first Hawaii Arts Season 2004 on February 27, 2004. The season runs through May 2, 2004.
The Hawaii Arts Season is a marketing initiative to promote and heighten awareness of the state's arts organizations and events among potential visitors to the state and to help bring visitors to Hawaii during a traditionally slower period of the year. The program will highlight cultural and arts events statewide, and will be promoted in the North America and Japan markets. For more detailed program information, visit: http://www.gohawaii.com/exec/103106/3564
Research by the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA) has shown that U.S. historic/cultural travelers spend over 36 percent more on their vacations, and stay nearly 27 percent longer than the average U.S. traveler.

Hawaii's Global Appeal for Meetings Showcased with Same-Day Promotions in Northern California and Australia The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) stretched its marketing of Hawaii as a meetings destination to both sides of the Pacific, conducting simultaneous promotions in Northern California and Australia.
HVCB, along with 12 travel companies, marketed Hawaii at the 16th Annual Northern California Chapter of Meeting Professionals International's (NCCMPI) Trade Show, February 18, at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
"We're communicating Hawaii's meeting assets and promoting the business sectors that are consistent with the state's core competencies, especially in the area of technology," said Michael Murray, CMP, CMM, CASE, director of sales for HVCB's Corporate Meetings and Incentives (CMI) division.
At the same time - 8,000 miles away - HVCB marketed Hawaii's meetings benefits to international corporations and groups in Australia at the 12th Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME).
AIME 2004 is one of the largest business event exhibitions for meetings in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting corporations and meeting planners from throughout the Pacific Rim and Southeast Asia. This year's convention attracted a record 750 exhibitors from 40 countries and more than 2,600 trade buyers from around the world. AIME organizers estimate the event generated $800 million worth of meetings business.
HVCB has promoted Hawaii at AIME for several years, establishing a presence for Hawaii and attracting meetings from the region.
Please click here for the complete press release in PDF format. For information about holding meetings in Hawaii, the Islands of Aloha, visit HVCB's Web site at http://www.meethawaii.com or call the CMI division at 1-888-424-2924.

BIVB Continues to Take Our Message on the Road
Road Warrior Eric Dutro continues to pound the pavement, taking our Hawaii's Big Island message to the West and East Coasts. His first stop was the LA Times Travel Show in Long Beach California, February 7-8. The LA Times people reported there were over 12,500 consumers and 882 travel agents that attended the two-day event. BIVB was joined by Hilton Waikoloa Village, Kona Beach House, Hawaii Naniloa Resort, and the Mauna Kea Resort.
Eric then went east where he represented BIVB at the New York Times Travel Show, February 27-29. BIVB partnered with the Hilton Waikoloa Village and Dolphin Quest Hawaii at this event and had a successful showing. March will send Eric to sunny, Phoenix, AZ where he will participate in the Arizona ASTA tradeshow on March 27.
In addition, the PR team visited Dallas, Houston and Denver February 23 - 27, once again seeking destination editorial coverage. Media luncheons in each city and individual media calls were made, including visits with the Dallas Morning News, The Meeting Professional, Houston Chronicle, Family Life, Joy of Travel, Senior Wire News Service and several prominent freelance writers. The BIVB team which is headed to San Francisco March 15 - 19, along with the Hilton Waikoloa Village, will host a media luncheon and meet with individual media in the surrounding Bay area.
Great job Eric and mahalo to all our participating members. Anyone wishing to join BIVB in San Francisco please contact Vivian Landrum at vlandrum@hvcb.org. For more information please visit BIVB online at http://bigisland.org or call (808) 961-5797.

Kauai Pin Available for Order
In my many travels, I have noticed that some destinations give a pin as a gift and reminder of their visit. I asked the award-winning team of Tsunami Marketing to create a design for a pin that Kauai could give away that represented our island. Tsunami Marketing came up with a circular pin that has a "Circle of Life" meaning for Kauai. Rather than try and find just one image that represents the island, the KVB Board of Directors felt the "Circle of Life" concept tells a better story about Kauai. Click here to see the pin design and read the meaning of the images on the pin: www.kauaidiscovery.com/kauaipin
If you are interested in placing an order for the Kauai pin, please fill out the form located at the web address above (or contact the KVB office for the order form). The deadline to place an order for the pin is Friday, March 26, 2004.
