Grainger Television Australia Films "Heavenly Hawaii" Grainger Television Australia was commissioned to film a one-hour travelogue segment titled, "Heavenly Hawai'i", to be released on Australia's Channel 7 in June/July 2003 exclusively on the "World Around Us" program.
"Heavenly Hawai'i" is expected to draw 7.5 million viewers with a coverage value of $4 million as it repeats 5 times within the next 10 years. Travel Channel Europe has also shown interest in purchasing "Heavenly Hawai'i" for its European viewers. Travel Channel Europe has an estimated audience in excess of 50,000 per episode and a total exposure value of $23 million, repeating 8 weeks for 5 years.
Grainger Television was able to capture the uniqueness of four Hawaiian Islands: O'ahu, Big Island, Kaua'i, and Maui within a span of two weeks. Integration with individual Island Chapter was key in the success of the Grainger project in securing sponsorships for hotel accommodations and activities. Collaboration with the State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism - Film office, and each county film division was also vital in processing and approving the necessary film permits.
"Heavenly Hawai'i" will feature 7 lifestyle activities to include: 1) night diving with manta rays, 2) cowboy adventure (Paniolo), 3) stargazing and volcano, 4) power hang gliding, 5) movies filmed in Hawaii, 6) eco adventures, and 7) culture and history of the Islands.

The Developing International Markets Division represented the State of Hawaii at the annual Yunnan Festival in Kunming, China on April 8-12, 2003.
This invitation-only event by Governor Shao Qiwei, Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province, is a cultural festival whereby different countries are asked to showcase their talents together with folk singers and dancers from Xishuangbanna.
This year, representation included Wei-wei Ojiri (Senior Consultant for Greater China), Cynthia Zhou (General Manager - China offices), Jennifer Jia (Executive Assistant - Bejing office), and Bruce Wu (Polynesian Cultural Center Representative). With efforts from Governor Shao Qiwei and Peter Pei (Chef Editor of CCTV), interviews with the Hawaii delegation were broadcasted on Yunnan TV, Dali TV, and CCTV (China Central Television - China's largest government-run television network).
Participation in Yunnan Festival is not only to promote the exchanges of culture and customs, but it also enhances the cooperation between two governments. Long-term commitment and relationship stability is crucial in China, especially when maintaining the position of being in the forefront of an emerging market.
For more information on Yunnan Festival, please contact Michele Lee at (808) 924-0240, or via e-mail at mlee@hvcb.org.
A reader asks, "Being in the railroad industry, customers come in every shape and size, some comfortable using electronic means to conduct business while still a larger number are "old-fashioned" in their ways and are skeptical of using electronic means to conduct business. What are your thoughts on how companies can break down the electronic barrier that still exists with skeptical and stubborn customers?"
Easy solution: Give your electronic customers a discount. That will properly motivate your non-electronic customers to break down the electronic barrier themselves.
However, this solution underscores a much bigger point that many of us in the tech industry have yet to really understand: Only geeks like technology for technology's sake. The rest of the world needs a solid business reason to implement a particular technology and they will carefully evaluate the post-implementation operation to verify if in-fact they are getting the ROI that the salesperson promised.
So the real, holistic solution to your problem is this: Show your customers how e-business will lower their costs and improve their operations and you will at least have the door opened for you. Identify what their first "baby step" might be that provides the highest ROI, plan out a pilot project that will implement this baby step, then follow-up afterward to see that it delivered the promise.
Sounds like a lot of work? It is! But this is what it takes. Companies won't change just because we ask them to. They need solid business solutions that really work. A simple golden rule of changing a business (that many of us fail to grasp) is that change is nearly instantaneous if it can be quickly implemented to deliver immediate gains. A good "Change Phrase" goes something like "Do X and you will start saving $Y in Z days". A poor Change Phrase says "Imagine how great things will be after you spent $X to get this new Y technology".
Are your change efforts being thwarted by a specific individual? Is there a person that feels the current way "works better"? Getting people to change is a slightly different story (but only slightly) and I'll cover that in the next exciting episode.
Send me your toughest e-business questions and if the topic is of general interest, I'll happily post your question and the answer.
Peter Kay is the president of CyberCom,
