HVCB Earns Top Awards at Korea's Largest Travel Event

The 16th Korea World Travel Fair (KOTFA) was held June 5-8 in Seoul, with 321 exhibitors participating from 43 countries.  The tradeshow attracted more than 84,000 visitors, 83 percent of which were targeted travel consumers who paid an entry fee to gain admission and interact with destination exhibitors.  The remaining 17 percent of attendees comprised travel trade professionals in Korea.

KOTFA judges bestowed HVCB with awards for "Best Booth Design" and "Best Folklore Performance" confirming Hawaii's presentation as a highlight event during the tradeshow.  This marked the third consecutive year HVCB has earned both awards.

HVCB's involvement at KOTFA, made possible by the generous support and cooperative partnership of Korean Air, produced other marketing opportunities for Hawaii beyond the tradeshow exposure.  Most prominently, HVCB secured extensive broadcast and print media coverage promoting Hawaii's qualities as a destination, including 10 major features in travel trade and consumer publications.

In addition, HVCB met with officials of the Doosan Bears professional baseball team, which has conducted pre-season training camps in Hawaii since 1999.  HVCB presented the team with gifts from the Islands, expressing the state's appreciation for their business and encouraging their continued participation.

With 2003 marking the centennial anniversary of the first Korean immigrants to the United States, HVCB's attendance at KOTFA this year was particularly noteworthy.  Locally, the Korean community is undertaking a yearlong celebration to commemorate the history and significance of its 100 years in the Islands.

A big mahalo to our 10 Hawaii travel partners who supported the HVCB at KOTFA - Aloha Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Hilton Hawaii, Marriott & Renaissance Resorts Hawaii, Outrigger Hotels & Resorts/OHANA Hotels & Resorts, Pacific Beach Hotel, Polynesian Cultural Center, Prince Resorts Hawaii, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii, and the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel.

Who are your online competitors?

Go to http://search.gohawaii.com/kw/poes and find out how to get a competitive advantage online!

We're all comfortable in using the Web as a way to market our products and services. But how many of you have used the Web to do an in-depth analysis of your competitors? How many of you become "mystery Web surfers" and act like a potential customer by attempting to find your company on the Web?

As part of our ongoing monthly installment of the Partner Online Education Series (POES), we're happy to roll out our fourth issue.  This month we're focusing on how you can use gohawaii.com to find out how you stack up against your competitors.  It's a complete mini-course with great ideas on finding your competitors, seeking out new market opportunities simply with a wording change, and increasing the amount of visitors to your site.  This is a "beginner" course designed for those that have rarely (if ever) seriously researched their competitive positioning online.

Like all of our other POES installments, you can sit back and watch the streamed presentation or interactively click through online slides and view screenshots and sample reports.

If you have a Web site and believe it's important to your business, then understanding how you compare to the rest of the market, and understanding how customers can (or cannot!) find you will make all the difference in the world to your online business.

Just go to http://search.gohawaii.com/kw/poes and find out how to get a competitive advantage!

Let us know what you think!

Another Successful Kauai Island Event

The 2003 Kauai Island event was held on June 26, 2003 at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.  The joint efforts of the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau and the Kauai Visitors Bureau enabled member and non-member businesses to gain understanding of various market areas and how the HVCB and KVB reach those markets.

The presentations featured Major Marketing Areas, North America, Japan, and Corporate Meetings & Incentives, who described recent trends in their market and what they are doing to target those areas.  Also included, was HVCB's technology session that highlighted Web statistics and introduced the Partner Online Education Series (an online program created to assist business partners in enhancing their exposure on the Internet).  SMS Research closed the event with research information specific to Kauai, including visitor statistics and recent industry developments.

Over 40 member and non-member organizations participated in this event.  Attendees were asked to complete an event survey and here are some of the comments given at the end of the event:

"Excellent.so much information presented!" - Jamie McKnight, Kauai Inn

"The information was helpful and interesting."- Amanda Kouba, Tutui Nui Productions, LLC

"Great seminar; do it again!" - Shaylyn Kimura, Princeville Golf Club

For copies of the presentation, event handouts, and complete results of the event survey, please email membership@hvcb.org and write "Kauai Island Event Information" in the subject line.

Getting hitched in Hawaii - more than 111,000 year to date!

We've always known that there is no better place than Hawaii to get married and honeymoon.  People from around the world seem to agree.  According to the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, more than 78,000 visitors have come to the Islands of Aloha to wed since January, and more than 111,000 have spent their days in marital bliss here.and we're looking forward to many more to come!  In hopes of helping visitors plan their romantic trips, the HVCB provides a consumer service on our gohawaii.com site.

The new service launched on Valentine's Day 2003 and provides leads via e-mail to our partnering businesses.  Each lead has information specific to the consumer and their planned wedding, wedding renewal, or honeymoon.   Businesses are able to respond directly to the consumer through an alias address and share information about their company and services.

Since February, nearly 8,000 leads have been distributed to partnering businesses as we invite more visitors to "share a little Aloha" here in Hawaii!

If your company would like more information or to take part in the Romance Lead Generation added-value service, please contact Jaci Murakami at jmurakami@hvcb.org or at (808) 924-0250.
