The transition has included streamlining of Bureau operations,
greater integration of the Island Chapter marketing
into the overall statewide marketing effort, and greater
accountability to our client, the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
And the remaining issues from last year's audit are
being resolved.
All this could not have been accomplished without your
partnership, the active participation of our board of
directors, and a strengthened partnership with the Hawaii
Tourism Authority.
So, enjoy the fruits of our joint labors this holiday
season. We look forward to an exciting 2005 with new
initiatives and opportunities to showcase all the
Islands of Aloha.

Domestic Arrivals to Hawaii at
Record-High Pace Through October
Hawaii is experiencing record-high domestic visitor
arrivals through October, with nearly 4.1million arrivals,
surpassing year-to-date 2003 levels by 7.4 percent.
The record level is spurred by growth from the U.S.
East market, up 9.6 percent through the third quarter;
and the U.S. West market, up 4.5 percent compared to
the same period last year. Canadian arrivals are also
on the rise, after declines earlier in the year, up
2.2 percent through October 2004.
• Total scheduled air seats have grown 7.9
percent during the first ten months of 2004, compared
to
the same period in 2003, driven by the 9.5 percent
increase in seats from the U.S. Mainland.
• U.S. West air seats are up 5.6 percent
over the first ten months of 2003, totaling nearly 4.4
million air seats
thus far in 2004.
• U.S. East scheduled air seats are up 35.4
percent (to 1.05 million total seats) for the first
through October.
Though scheduled air seats from Canada are down 6.7
percent for the first nine months of 2004, new service
to Hawaii from Harmony Airways, and increased air lift
from Air Canada will help boost Canadian air seat figures
by the end of the year.

The following
details expand on HVCB’s marketing plans targeted
to impact travel to Hawaii in 2005:
Consumer Marketing Opportunities
Television:
January 31 – February 20, 2005
Television will provide the greatest
reach of all the Spring media. The media strategy leverages
relationships with a single media company – Discovery
Networks – to develop a multi-media campaign.
This multi-media strategy follows consumer travel research,
booking behaviors, and the Hawaii Arts Season.
Travel Channel serves as the lead cable
network and provides:
Original programming in branded shows (“Girl Meets
Hawaii”).
Sponsorship of stunt programming in primetime Hawaiian
Escape stunt night (“Best Hotels”, “Top
10 Beaches” & “Natural Wonder of Hawaii”).
Billboards will be used to drive traffic to HVCB “Come
Celebrate Aloha” spring packages web page.
Co-op national cable television packages are available
at $25,000, $50,000 and $75,000 increments & co-op
online travel sites packages at $5,885 and $11,760.
Discovery Channel and Discovery
Health are also included as an integral part
of the campaign with high affinity with our core target
within programming that appeals to the inquisitive and
active, and those that are more adventurous in mind
and spirit.
Placements on Discovery Online will run in tandem with
broadcast efforts and support Hawaii television programs.
A&E, History, and National
Geographic are also being considered for opportunistic
programming targeting the Culture & Arts audience
along with special Hawaii programming.

Paddling as One
The Insurance Conference
Planners Association (IPCA) held their 2004 Annual Meeting
on Maui, November 14-18. It was Maui no ka oi! (Maui
is the best!) for a premier meetings trade convention,
but all the "Islands of Aloha" benefitted
from the Hawaii inspired theme, "Together We Paddle
As One" at Maui's spectacular Grand Wailea Resort
Hotel & Spa, while experiencing the beauty, excitement
and incentive attributes of all the islands.
An estimated 500 ICPA executives took part in the Maui
convention, 200 of which are planners responsible for
booking thousands of meetings and incentives annually.
HVCB and its island chapters hosted a welcome reception
and dinner under the stars at the Grand Wailea.
ICPA conventioneers got a healthy sampling of the sights,
sounds, charms, flavors and aloha found on each island
- Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii's Big
Island.
Prior to the event Michael Murray, CMP, CMM, CASE, director
of sales, corporate meetings and incentives said, "Planners
wil get to enjoy the same type of activities they can
recommend to their clients. These opportunities
to engage the destination are what make Hawaii meetings
so memorable and worthwhile."
Terryl Vencl, executive director of the Maui Visitors
Bureau said, "We're ready to welcome ICPA with
our Maui-style Aloha and make their 2004 meeting one
of the best ever!"
Hawaii has an excellent reputation with ICPS, besides
being named the #1 U.S. destination in a survey conducted
last year, more than 70 percent of its membership has
hosted programs in the islands and plan to return within
five years.
For more information about hosting corporate meetings
and incentives in Hawaii, visit HVCB's website at meethawaii.com
or call 1-888-424-2924.

Tourism Europe
The Islands of Aloha Come
to London for World Travel Market
The
premier event in the UK travel trade calendar,
this month’s World Travel Market saw Hawaii Tourism
Europe proudly present the Islands of Aloha to
the world.
World Travel Market remains the travel and tourism
industry’s most effective international business
forum and this year, it’s 25th anniversary proved
its most successful year yet, welcoming a record
26,122 visitors through its doors on the opening
day alone, including Government Ministers, Meridian
Club members and trade professionals from the
194 exhibiting countries.
The first three days of WTM saw a total of 42,289
visitors come to the ExCel centre in London’s
Docklands, a 2 percent increase on last years
attendance. Furthermore, overseas trade visitors
increased by 11 percent year on year, while press
attendance increased by 2 percent to 2,636.
The event proved especially useful for the Hawaii
Tourism Authority and its trade partners, with
over 45 meetings held with key press trade representatives
during the 4-day event on the new stand. It also
proved the perfect forum to announce the launch
of the new dedicated UK website, which will be
live by the month’s end.
